23rd September 2004 - long gone days

I’ve been full of thoughts about this EC thing I’ve been up to. It’s perked me up no end and I don’t know if it’s because my spirits have been lifted by it but I actually had a better day today – for the first time in a long time I’ve felt as though something I’ve done actually mattered and someone was pleased with it. I can’t make up my mind whether the positive vibes in my mind from this little project have meant that other stuff doesn’t seem so bad or whether it’s that I actually HAVE had a good day – that’s how jaded I am.

Anyway, Jeanne – today’s is easy as I’m now 2-0 up on the score board at the moment – I thought I’d give you this one…..

I’ve had songs by the great master of the clever lyric running through my mind all day. For whatever reason, he is my absolute musical hero – no-one else comes close to his status as No 1 in my eyes. Analysis of the reasons why are:

He writes perfect ‘kitchen sink dramas’ – and I love them
His word play is just superb! Anyone who knows ‘Big Sister’s Clothes’ must agree with that one.
His voice has that wonderful, raspy, fragile quality that I love so much – DMs voice has a lot of that in it too.
Add to that the fact that I play his albums all the time means that I know the songs so well that I can leap around the room with gay abandon while they are on the CD player (or even the record player) and belt out the lyrics with gusto.

I once fell out with Champagne Hughie over EC. Shazbop and I were saying that of all his albums, we liked ‘Punch the Clock’ least. Hughie said no, it was his best album. We were in the bar at a gig and we were screaming at him and he was yelling back. We ended up having to call a truce and agree to differ on the subject. That’s how passionate we are about the ‘Man out of Time’.

So Jeanne – got it yet?

BTW - this is actually (despite looking like a pure snap shot) the most difficult photo I've ever taken!

Oh and the film? Lethal Weapon 2 - the scene when Crockett (or whatever his name is) discovers his wife at the bottom of a lake....

Yes, it's 'watching the detectives'!

This photo is fantastic. Love the angle and colors.
How'd I miss EC? I know who he is but I don't know his music...sounds like an assignment for me.

It saddens me to think that you a) need outside validation for your wonderfulness b) can't see how much your mere existance (let alone your words, pictures, sentiments and giving, kind, nurturing soul) uplifts those around you, Linda.

What are we going to do about this, girls (and boys)????????
