So, it's here at last. The day that we've all sweated blood over for months now. Our awards bash.
We've had a few last minute hiccups but not too many and at the point this photo was taken we were all togged up and greeting the first few clients of the evening. I was completely overwhelmed by the number of clients who turned up in fancy dress (they had the option of fancy dress or black tie) - around 60-70% of the guests were dressed up in fancy dress that encompassed everything from a 'village people' style cowboy, all in black patent leather, bar girls, John Wayne look-a-likes and much, much more. Some of the costumes were spectacular.
Ginny, Sarah and I wore long dresses with loads of cleavage and hooped petticoats, feather boas and high heels. We'd hired a hotel room to get changed from our work gear into our party outfits and, after a mad half hour with make up and clothes flying everywhere while we scurried into our gladrags. We tumbled out of the room, all giggly and suddenly realised we had to get out of the hotel and to the Roof Gardens, some half a mile away or so in Kensington High Street, looking like we were on our way to a very different sort of work!!!
As we walked out of the lobby of the hotel, we bumped into a client who was wowed by the outfits and he told us that all of his party were dressing up too so we were encouraged. We agreed to see him later and then a group of elderly American tourists got all excited and insisted on taking our pics - how sweet!
The food was wonderful, the bucking broncho a scream, the can-can girls crazy and the square dancing great fun. Phew! Now all that was left was for me to do my presentation of the awards and then relax. It was so much fun in the end, after all our fretting.
After the show could I let down my hair and party? No I could not! Why not? Thursday at 9.30am I was 'on parade' for the most important board meeting of the year - the year end forecasting and budget setting meeting for the three year plan!!! Now who thought that was a good idea? Not me, I think I just about cried when I realised that meant no drinking for the rest of the evening either.
