DM has already posted a photo of the view and he sort of stole my thunder because I'd been planning this when he said.......'I've just found my photo'. Pah!
So, we're here and more comfy than we expected to be in the circumstances. We have something (albeit too short and not very comfy at all.....but better than bare floorboards) to sleep on and a cooker that the previous occupants left so we feel pretty lucky. All I can say is roll on the delivery of that bed.....
It's been something of a stressful day, packing up our stuff at home, loading the car and getting down here - especially as Sundays in Cornwall are like Sundays 20 years ago in Greater London - the shops are well and truly shut, other than a couple of National supermarkets so we knew we had to bring everything we needed to last us until Monday morning.
In the event we decided to nip down to our new 'local' for supper and a few pints of local brew......I can honestly say I've never had a better evening. We have no pub in our village, we have to go to the next village (only half a mile away by road) and there is a bridlepath (a footpath that you are allowed to ride horses along) from the end of our road that drops down the hill and comes out right next door to the pub. I think we will see that a few more times over the next few years!!! Going out that way is excellent but it's too dark to come back that way so we came back by road which is further but easier in the absolute pitch dark that we have here. Our meal was excellent, as was the beer, the surroundings in the 16th century inn were wonderful and the welcome we got was as good as we could have hoped for.
We've both been worried about being ostracized by the local community because of being 'rich Londoners' coming down and buying a local house without living in it full-time. If tonight is anything to go by, we don't need to worry. We have had a constant string of people talking to us and no hint of hostility at all. Phew!
I took this photo more or less immediately after David took his - it's my idea of the perfect view - his view, with my loved ones in it too. Wonderful.
