The Queen's London residence is locally known as Buck House rather than Buckingham Palace. You can tell if she is in residence in her palaces because the Royal Standard is flown over the palace where she is. Today she's not here because it is the Union Flag rather than the Royal Standard being flown which means she is either in another of her palaces (she has another three in Britain I think) or she's on a state visit somewhere.
