Today is the day of remembrance - we are supposed to remember the people who have lost their lives in war. To me remembering the dead means remembering the futility of war - how they just seem to creep up on us and before we realise we've been sucked in (again).
I want to believe that those who died didn't die in vain but I can't - we're still at it today....we never seem to learn from our mistakes. I'm not suggesting that those who fought were not incredibly brave for stepping up and doing what they thought was right, just that there have been too many people who thought that their war would be the one to stop the fighting and it wasn't or that the sacrifice of their life would mean others didn't need to die - and others are still dying. For every one human being that dies, someone else is pulling the trigger.
So my photo is a symbol of peace. I can't say it better than Bono and U2.....
Don't believe in the Uzi - just went off in my hand
I - I believe in love
It's not good enough to say 'it just went off in my hand' it's time to stop the killing.
A lighting engineer's credit goes to David - thanks Hon!
