People always think business travel is glamorous unless you have to do it! I arrived in Roma at 5.30pm, took a 40 minute taxi ride to my meeting which I was late for the start of, it lasted until 11pm then I walked the 200 yards to my hotel and managed to get this photo en-route by balancing the camera on a railing.
While I was in Roma, I saw the inside of a taxi, the inside of my company's office, this exquisite view across Argentina Square, the inside of my hotel room then another taxi!
One little bit of excitement though - my all-time musical hero, Elvis Costello wrote a fantastic song, 'Tokyo Storm Warning' and in it there is a lyric that goes...'Holidays are dirt-cheap in the Costa del Malvinas, In the Hotel Argentina they can hardly tell between us' - I love it! Guess what....my hotel was the Hotel Argentina! Wow - I think his lyrics are just about the best little slices of cleverly put together words - shame it's such an angry song!
Roma was full of Chelsea supporters singing in the streets about their Champions League victory against Lazio - they sang their little hearts out until 1am, bless them. I had to get up at 5am to catch a 7.30am flight out of there......
.....arrivederci Roma - one of my favourite places on Earth - I will stay a while next time!
