woodstock

Everyone has a childhood favourite cartoon. For me there can be no substitute for Snoopy, Woodstock, Charlie Brown, Lucy and the rest of Charles Schulz's creations. I just can't get enough of them.

I came across this brass Woodstock moneybox while putting my stuff away in my new kitchen - nearly finished now. It brought a huge nostalgia hit to me, I was given it, along with some pottery characters from Peanuts, when I left my first job - at AGB doing TV audience research in the late seventies. I've cherished it ever since.

I've spent the afternoon thinking over what are my favourite strips from the great cartoon....although most of my top ten don't feature Woodstock - my faves are the ones with Snoopy justifying his existence with Charlie Brown - for anyone who's familiar with the cartoon, my favourites are the one where Charlie Brown is off to the prom and gets kicked out for taking Snoopy, the one where Linus is sitting on his blanket and Snoopy joins him - Linus says 'I don't remember inviting you to share my blanket but you are kind of warm and fuzzy' and Snoopy's classic response is 'everyone brings something to the party' - I just love that - it's so true!

I think my life would have been much less rich if Snoopy, Woodstock and the gang hadn't been in it.

Mr Schulz if you're looking down on me - thanks for such awe inspiring, gentle, touching humour. Since you left us, I hardly ever see Snoop and the gang anywhere except here (home) - that's such a bad thing even though I totally supported your decision not to let anyone else carry on the strip when you were ill. You truly were the greatest cartoonist ever.
