Tonight I made a big error of judgement - I took David to see Joe Jackson. I thought he'd love him - a wonderful, accomplished musician, unspoilt by overt stardom. What could be better?

In fact he hated it. He only knew a handful of songs (surprisingly) and he really hated the overcrowding of the venue - surely more people than fire regs would allow? The audience were mostly like me - 40somethings who knew all the songs but unlike me they sang along loudly, making the whole event seem like a huge karaoke party to David.

I, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed every minute - bad singing by the crowd and all. Sharon - it's such a shame you missed it. I know if you'd been there you would have had a wonderful time.
