17th February 2015 - oh Lord

…won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz…

Oh, OK – I don’t need the Lord to do that, I got a job and managed it myself. I have, though, been singing the song in my head since I made the deal with the boss man to buy his sister’s old car.

The good bits:
I am now the proud owner of a B Class Merc, something I never thought in a million years I’d be able to say (and hence the sale of the Sunshine Bus as my facebook friends will know). It’s a gorgeous thing and I’d been saving my hard-earned for similar since starting work last year. Then something weird happened. One appeared in the car park at work and after a bit of investigation, research and thought, I made an offer for it and bought it. I had to borrow some of the money because my savings weren’t enough for the car and its repairs (two matching rear wheel arch scrapes on both sides). Anyway, I secured the deal and then set about getting the repairs done and getting a service. Job done.

The (foolish) other bits:
I didn’t test drive it because it wasn’t taxed or insured so I had to take the word of other people that it was a good car. I also had to shell out a lot of dosh before driving it to get it into good shape.

The outcome:
It was delivered to me at work today and it’s now sitting outside the house looking exceedingly lovely as Mr Kipling might say. I must confess to still not having driven it myself because, er well I’m a coward and want to do my test drive during the daytime without pressure of work traffic (in other words on Saturday morning on the A38). DM took me out in it tonight and it’s already a case of “the king is dead long live the king” because however much I love the sunshine bus, this is a smooth, safe-feeling ride and well, frankly the stereo is effin amazing.

Molly B was busy telling me that a Queensmead girl would, of course, want a Merc because of its properties as a sexual object (no, I can’t repeat in these circles) and I protested because it’s ten years old and a B Class and I stand by my position on that but it’s still a thing of great pleasure – make of that what you will!

Those B class cars are excellent, and don't get the good reputation they deserve as they're not too pricey
