Aren’t these sculptures wonderful? They arrived on the university campus recently and are huge – taller than a person. I wondered if they were a permanent feature or if they are only here for the duration of the Peter Randall-Page exhibition. I’m told that the university is not wealthy enough to buy them so the assumption is that they are on loan. Despite this, they don’t look like they are going anywhere to me!
They are known as Fructus, Corpus and Phyllotaxus. To me they look like pollen grains although that’s clearly not their intention given their names. I think, as I’ve said of other works by this artist, that they are exquisitely beautiful and extraordinarily tactile. His path and mine are crossing back and forth at the moment. Two weeks ago, I went to his exhibition, last week I was lucky enough to spend the week working in a building he helped to design and one of his works was the centrepiece, now I brush past these glorious things each day on campus.
It’s been a good day today. I have discovered my last placement location and it’s exactly what I’d hoped for – a village school, close to home and lower Key Stage 2. If I pass this placement, I get the teaching certificate. I just have to make sure that I deliver my very best effort and that will be made easier through its proximity to home because I’ll have more time to work, spending less time travelling. If I make sure I maximise that benefit, I may just scrape it.
