15th February 2014 - no showboating here!

First of all I am rather pleased with this shot – it’s done by waving the camera about while firing off the studio light. DM says he thinks it’d make a good cover for an album of “Valentines music for lovers”. (Hee hee.)

I got home from work last night, having secreted a Valentine’s card for him in a spot in the house where I knew he’d have to go at some point in the day before going to work, to find nothing from him. Nada. Nowt. I was a little miffed because I could see he’d found my card, which he didn’t even mention even though it was on the mantelpiece yet he’d not even been bothered to go out after receiving it and get me a left-over card!

My normal routine was completely mucked up because of waiting for Colin to arrive and wondering where on his heroic journey he was so I didn’t do my usual thing – to go upstairs and divest myself of my work garb. Eventually I did go upstairs and found myself met, in the bedroom, by a rather strange and definitely monstrous carbuncle on the bed. There was something under the eiderdown!

It was a big box and inside it a dozen red roses. Shucks. I’d doubted my wonderful love’s commitment to Valentine’s day when he’d done the grand gesture and I’d not even noticed! You see, he’s not known for grandstanding or showboating. He’s like me – frugal and cautious and let’s face it, Valentine’s Day is a licence for florists to print money as any roses available at that time of year must be imported and therefore expensive beyond reason.

He later told me that he’d had a conversation with a work colleague who’d been planning to pop into Morrisons for a bunch of flowers on his way home from work and DM’s response had been…

“Sure, on any other occasion, but Valentine’s Day and Wedding Anniversaries? Well, on those days nothing but the grand gesture is enough.” I must say, I wince at the thought of the cost of the dozen roses but nonetheless am thrilled to be the recipient of them!
