OK I know that once again I submit s stunningly poor photograph for scrutiny on pbase BUT despite its mediocrity it is the culmination of something so incredibly simple and yet so much fun I can’t believe how much pleasure it brought me.
These strange little helicopters are made from a piece of paper, cut into twice, the two outer bits folded up in opposite directions then a paper clip is added to the bottom of the middle piece, then it’s let go from the highest point you can. In this case, they were launched off the balcony of the third (fourth if you are elsewhere in the world – we call the bottom floor the ground floor then our floor 1 is what most people call floor 2) floor and they rotate like little helicopters down to the ground. Honestly, to see twenty adults grinning with glee as they floated down then racing down to retrieve them for another go was quite something – imagine how much fun a ten-year-old will get from this!
What’s odd is that I’ve obviously made paper aeroplanes, as I’m sure everyone has, yet these are so much more fun and so brilliantly simple, I can’t believe I’ve never come across them before. I can’t wait to try them out with a class…my own little helicopter heroes.
Strangely the afternoon didn’t present any more photo opportunities, in part because the rest of it was spent in the pub!
