I was privy to a view that isn’t seen by many people and certainly I’ve not seen before today. This is the view, across the rooftops of Plymouth to two of the city’s most historic places of worship – Plymouth Cathedral (tallest, most pointy spire) and St Peter’s Church (tall building, squatty spire that looks as if it's been welded to the side of the other spire in the photo). I love the way that churches are built to tower above the communities they serve…or is it above the communities that serve them? When I say this, I feel I must make my atheism known. Despite this, I do think church architecture is beautiful in a way that most architecture just isn’t.
You may spot the beginnings of a theme here – I have made a little pact with myself, for the sake of self-preservation, to try my best to get a photo while I am on campus each day, a pact that I have succeeded in for the last two days. This shot was taken from the third floor (4th to some) of the building whose exterior graced yesterday’s photo. Who knows what tomorrow’s pic will contain? I do know that there is a rich source of images from around this city. I’ve surprised myself by becoming quite fond of it, despite its strangeness.
It’s a simple truth that if I don’t get an image while I am out then I will be shooting a cack shot late at night. I got home at about ten past seven tonight and by the time I’d printed off my materials and sorted out my bags for tomorrow, it was kick-off time (7.45pm) and so I’ve spent half of the first half of the footie slaving over a hot stove.
