15th January 2013 - into week 3....

So, I’m into my third week after what amounts to a six year break from this and to be honest, today is the first day I’ve really struggled to get an idea. I’m a bit frazzled after an afternoon at Uni doing something worse than pulling teeth. For the sake of the sensibilities of the people I’ve been with, I’m not going to say what, just in case any of them ever find their way into this blog, suffice to say that it was truly painful.

I managed to escape and got home to find two stir crazy dogs who’d been on their own for most of the day and desperately needed to let off steam so I took them out for some games and then of course it’s straight into the rounds of “evening chores” – the fire to attend to, the chickens to put to bed, the washing to sort, the meal to prepare.

So, before I know it it’s late, DM has already shot, processed and pasted a pic and I’m fannying around with home-made pasta and pesto. This, for the sake of my sanity and expediency became my photo.

While I’ve been sitting processing it I was thinking about Chris Addison’s interview on Radio 4’s Chain Reaction – for anyone who’s not experienced it it’s a show where one “celeb” interviews another then the interviewee chooses another celeb to interview the following week and so on. Chris Addison was interviewed by Rebecca Front, both of whom have iconic status in our world as two of the key characters in The Thick of It (for anyone overseas this is a razor-sharp, utterly brutal political satire on BBC TV). Both CA and RF come across as “nice blokes” in real life if you see what I mean. Anyway, apparently RF had a pop at CA when he said he was planning to cook pasta with a jar of pesto for supper. Apparently a jar of pesto is NOT THE DONE THING. So she gave him a different recipe for a pasta sauce that was quick, easy and home-made. Dunno what it was exactly although they did discuss it on the programme. In my defence it was last summer that I heard it and we were in the car on our way home from holiday. We were just skirting round the edge of Cardiff if I recall correctly.

We don’t buy jars of pesto because they are sometimes made with the wrong kind of nuts (in other words, nuts that cause allergic reactions in my hubby) so I make my own. That’s what this is, however much it may look like liquidised caterpillars. I have photographed home made pesto before - and that one was better!

About twenty minutes later it was in our tummies and David was still alive……phew – got away with it again!

Liquidised caterpillar pesto... -- yummy...! You can't beat the fresh stuff, to be honest....

Green goodness. Food has become my PAD fallback option too!

Hmm - the liquidised caterpillars sound like an interesting option as well!

I've never even thought of making my own pesto, and I don't think that yours looks like liquidised caterpillars, not that I've ever seen any :-)
