We’ve got friends coming for the weekend so I’ve been cooking in advance of their arrival – it’s so I don’t have to cook from scratch after a day at work.
This is a part of their dessert. Not telling what it is!
As for mixing – does anyone in the world not know about the UK politicians scandal? I’m getting mighty bored of the revelations to be frank.
Did we know our politicians were sleezebags? Yes – if you’ve had your eyes open you did. Did they do anything wrong? Yes, of course they did! Is it more or less than we’d expected? No, not really. We all knew (if we were either honest or alive) that they’ve been milking the system but their little(!) expenses fiddles have astounded all of us.
What shocks me? The scary party divide – tories claiming for moats, tennis courts, swimming pools and chandeliers, labour claiming for homes, TVs and food, lib dems claiming for……well, whatever they claim for it’s irrelevant in the financial scheme of things.
What I want now is to have an end to the “daily mail” reporting – the Telegraph – shame on you and to get a decent rewards package in place so our representatives get rewarded properly for a hard and often fairly shitty job (let’s face it who else has such intrusion into their private lives) but they can’t take advantage of the system.
The basic salary of an MP is £64,766 - given that most senior managers in medium sized businesses these days earn six figure salaries (and still have expense accounts) that seems to me to demonstrate the problem. Many talented people can earn more and with less aggro/intrusion/long hours by working for a PLC than they can for working for their constituents. Not only that but there is no job security - I knew someone whose father had been an MP for thirty years and when the country rounded up into pure hatred for the tories he lost his seat through no fault of his own - he'd looked after his constituents well for thirty years. That meant he lost his income with no notice not because he'd done anything wrong, simply because other people decided he didn't deserve to be their MP any more.
I moan like mad about politician but there is no way on earth I'd take the job in its current form. Being on call 24/7, having every newspaper hack crawling over your life, past, present and future to uncover "dirt" and working away from home for four days a week, often well into the night for a salary of £67k? No thanks!
Andrew MacKay was my MP in my last home. I reckon he’s done a shabby thing alright - what decent person would think it was OK to even ask the fees office if they can claim on both of their homes because each one is entitled to claim a second home allowance - but he was told he was OK to do it so who was in the wrong. To be honest, I’m more pissed off that his main home was in Birmingham and his second in Westminster than that he claimed for two homes – does he/has he ever cared one jot about Bracknell? How can he claim he has if he’s never lived there or ever even been a part of the world of a Bracknell citizen?
Mixed up – that’s a polite term for a complete fuck up. (Sorry Mum)
