This is the second time recently when DM and I have chosen the same subject material for our pic. I shot this one several days before he did but because he is up-to-date with his posting, his has appeared before mine.
It’s a good demonstration of our relative photographic skill – his is pure class whereas mine is pure donkey jacket if you get what I mean……for those who don’t get the donkey jacket reference, it was once the “uniform” of every outdoor manual worker in the UK – a big, thick black jacket with black plastic/leather shoulders. You don’t see them any more really. Anyway, the point of the ramble is that my pics are workman-like whereas his are a joy. I reckon Mary Bowles would have been right in her assertion that DMs shot was the only portrait the tool had ever had taken if it had been found in a home with two PADers/diarists!
This tool, as he’s already said by now was found underneath the old sink unit, where it had lain for goodness knows how many years. We believe the sink was in situ for thirty years or more. I walked into the kitchen and in desperation for a shot as I’d already missed two days, I decided that it’s nasty, gunky texture would do perfectly.
By Sunday (the day of this shot), we’ve been sink-less for six days, although the process of putting in the new one can begin tomorrow because the work surface has received its final two coats of finishing oil today. I sandwiched a day out working with a coat this morning and the final coat tonight. Hurrah for that. I've been washing potatoes in the bath again this evening for our supper.
As an aside, did you know that the Word dictionary does not recognise the word “situ” – I do like catching it out.
