26th January 2009 - beeing employed

My mail shot for work last week has already resulted in several appointments! That’s without any follow-up being done by me yet. I’m going to start phoning round when my Mum and Dad have gone home later this week but I’ve already covered the costs of it with the work I’ve drummed up already. Hurrah.

I’m giving lectures/tutoring/teaching children about the world of bees. Today I’ve had my first paid session at a school and I loved every minute of it. Mind you, it’s completely exhausting, if also utterly invigorating.

Bees are of critical importance to us. Without them, the world as we know it would not exist. If we think we have problems with feeding the population of the world at the moment, then that’s nothing compared to the problems of feeding a world when we’ve got no bees buzzing around pollinating for us.

They are extraordinarily complex creatures, living in highly organised communities where each creature works tirelessly on behalf of the good of the whole. I had no idea about this a year ago, when I started my bee journey. I’m only scratching the surface now but I am surprising myself with how much I’ve learned in the last year.

The early indicators are good for making at least a partial living from this and I’ve got two job interviews lined up for part-time work to keep the wolves from the door if this doesn’t generate enough to live on. Is this the beginning of a truly new life? I do hope so.

The bees knees to you. My niece Karen and her husband Tad raise bees quite successfully in Corvallis, OR. Next week they truck them down to the central valley in CA to pollinate the almond trees.

if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life . . . . I don't think you'll be working at this . . . I think you will just be having fun. And it's about darn time =)))

Maybe the awful year you've had, just had to be gone through to get you away from corporate life and being away from your beloved Cornwall/David/animals. Your body/mind telling you that enough is enough. You are going to be so happy from now on.........

Oh, from the thumbnail, I wondered what you were holding whilst getting your hair done!

That's great news on the job front - so good that you are getting an income from something that is an interest rather than a chore.
Good luck with the forthcoming interviews, Linda.
