Chester, is the county town of Cheshire England, lying beside the River Dee, close to the border with North Wales. The city is located on a "promontory of Old Red Sandstone". Chester was granted city status in 1541 and the city possesses the most complete circuit of Roman, Saxon and medieval walls in Britain.
A marvelous website exists - "Chester: A Virtual Stroll Around the Walls" http://www.chesterwalls.info/index.html I wish that I had found this website before our journey to this interesting and lovely city; had I done so, I might have been more efficient with the time we had to spend in Chester (which was only a couple of hours) - alas, life allowing we would love to return. Meanwhile here are some of my impressions of Chester, England on this, our first visit!
