Anyone would expect to see 16th century Gothic church somewhere in town center surrounded by other buildings. But it can also be found in unexpected location - empty fields close to Zapyskis village, some 20 kilometers west of Kaunas.
Zapyskis church was built in 16th century (most probably in 1530). Because of frequent floods from nearby Nemunas River, the village has gradually moved further away from the river. The church was abandoned in 1902 as new church was build.
The building itself suffered from several floods (most recent in 1946), and was partially restored in 1955.
