Dursey Island lies at the SW tip of the Beara Peninsula in the west of County Cork.
It is ~6.5 km long by 1.5 km wide and is separated from the mainland by a narrow stretch of water, called Dursey Sound.
The island has ~6 permanent residents and is connected to the mainland by Ireland's only cable car.
It has an abandoned Martello (signal) tower built during the Napoleonic era (1805).
