Volterra is a walled medieval town located in the Tuscan province of Pisa. It has been inhabited for the past 3,000 years, since Neolithic times. Volterra is built on a hilly ridge between the Era and Cecina valleys and is surrounded by a double curtain of walls, It is one of the most important hill-towns in Tuscany and is famous for the presence of Etruscan and Roman ruins. It is also famous for Tuscan alabaster workmanship.
