This is an incredible rainbow! Gorgeous!
And i think Alida asked a very interesting question. So Alida:
We call the colours the "spectrum" of light. What we see as white light is actually a mixture of all the colours of the rainbow - the full spectrum. The visible light (white) is actually only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. This white light can be split into parts, and the parts of white light are colours. So, the colours come from the light, and here, this light is split by a prism.
All the colours travel at the same speed but the energy and the frequency of oscillation differs. The blue end of the spectrum has more energy than the red; its frequency of oscillation is different, higher. Visible light is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum consists of all types of energy, e.g., radio waves, infrared, visible light ultraviolet X-rays, gamma rays, and cosmic rays where, again, visible (white)light is actually only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum Voilà!
