Trapdoor spiders are medium-sized spiders that construct burrows with a cork-like trapdoor made of soil, vegetation, and silk These spiders have chelicera on each fang which resemble teeth These appendages are used to dig and gather soil while constructing their burrows. They use their pdipalps and first legs to hold the trapdoor closed when disturbed. There are approximately 140 described species of trapdoor spiders.
