EDIT: WE SOLD OUR HOUSE IN LATE JAN, 2018. WE ARE NOW FULL-TIME RV'ERS!!
This gallery shows the basic's of what our house looks like (inside and out), plus some "before" pictures of what it's looked like since we bought it, to give you an idea of how we've changed the house and yards. ALL room measurements are rounded DOWN to the nearest whole foot. Our property is currently zoned for "B-1" (general business) but could still be bought and used as a residence.
Our house was built in 1945 so 2017 makes it about 72 years old. The main portion of our downstairs (which includes the master) is around 2,000 sq ft. There is a door at the top of the stairs to separate downstairs from upstairs (heating/cooling), and each floor has it's own A/C & heating system. The times we have been here as empty nester's, we spend minimal electricity on the upstairs but have that space available if company comes to town. The upstairs' 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and hallway is 1,100+ sq ft plus downstairs has an another attached portion off the kitchen (without heat or A/C) that makes up the breezeway/laundry room and an area originally built as a 1-car garage but later semi-converted to a room that we have used for additional storage space but could be turned into a 4th bdrm, office, etc. Overall, our house has 3,576 sq ft that is roofed/walled-in with A/C & heat. There are six doors that lead to the outside. Our main back yard is over a 1/2 acre with a slightly smaller, separately fenced -.5 acre behind that. We are on a septic system and there is a non-functioning well on the property. Our property is surrounded on 3 sides by 175+ acres of crop land (not owned by us). Taylor's primary shopping area is 1.4 miles straight down Hwy 95.
Originally, we were .8 of a mile OUTSIDE the city limits when we bought it but were later annexed and are now inside Taylor, TX's northern city limits on Hwy 95 North. Our land fronts Hwy 95 with about 200 ft. The property that is adjacent to ours on the South has Chandler Rd/University Blvd/FM 1431 cutting thru it and intersects Hwy 95.
In 2010 we replaced the downstairs windows (other than the bay ones) to modern style, double-paned with screens. This made a large impact in decreasing our electric bill (prior were all single pane), and providing a better sound barrier from the highway traffic noise. In 2013 we re-shingled the entire house (including the carport & covered deck adjacent to the carport), replaced the upstairs old casement windows to modern style, replaced the two bay windows downstairs, and replaced the old wooden deck off the breezeway/kitchen area. In 2014 we replaced the final 5 windows in the breezeway/laundry room and had the exterior house's trim re-painted. In 2016 we did a large remodel, splitting the single, large bathroom downstairs (used as the master and for guests), into a slightly-smaller but totally updated new ensuite master bath and a small powder room (for guests). During that same remodel we took out the original "his" & "hers" small master closets and created a 6x10 walk-in master closet.
