This is my first year in seven not going to the Western States training runs. My ankle recovery precludes my running on technical trails. David is there now, and I stayed home and ran my first road marathon in about 2 years at Coeur d'Alene. I had a blast and the ankle held up nicely. Unfortunately, it was David's turn to crank his ankle on those beautiful yet unforgiving trails. It was so bad he couldn't run on it the second day. He sent me these pictures, and after seeing his ankle, I'm so glad he didn't run on it! We ran the entire marathon this morning in a fantastic downpour; however, after seeing these pictures, I think I'd much prefer that to the weather they had at the training runs!
