Leucocybe connata

Deception Pass State Park, Washington

White Domecap
Long miscalled Citocybe dealbata in the USA, this common member of the Lyophyllaceae family features a dry and dazzlingly white convex cap, grows in clusters and is saprobic on leaf and grass litter. It is found on disturbed soil and often encountered alongside trails. The caps start domed-shaped, but may become wavy and lobed in age. They may reach 20 or more centimeters across. The gills are crowded, attached or slightly running down the stipe. They are white but may come to be more cream-colored. The white stalks are up to 8cm, cylindrical, equal or slightly enlarging downward, and often bent from clustered growth. Long considered toxic, they have been found not to contain toxins in more recent studies. The odor can be somewhat pungent
