Purple-edged Bonnet
A strikingly colored member of the Mycenaceae family this Mycena gets its common name from the strongly violet edges of the gills. It is a saprobe on conifer wood, here growing on a mossy log. The translucent-striate caps are from 5-30 mm broad, sulcate, smooth and grayish violet, usually darker at the disc. The gills are adnate, with 20-30 reaching the stipe, with strikingly purplish edges. The stalks are up to 70 mm tall, hollow, 2-3 mm across, terete, pruinose, smooth, and may be finely pubescent below. The flesh is thin and whitish. They have no distinctive odor or taste and drop white spores. They are too small to consider for the table.
