BLACK LEOPARD (Panthera pardus)

NZ

The black color of these cats is caused by a combination of recessive genes, a condition known as MELANISM. Two spotted parents can produce melanistic cubs. Though dark in color, these animals retain the rosette (spotted) pattern on their fur, which can be seen in the image above, if you look carefully.

Hi Larry,
I'm searching for a cool pic of a black leopard to use in a poster I'm designing to benefit the new upcoming exhibit at the Denver Zoo called "Asian Tropics". You can go to denverzoo.org and click the asian tropics link to check it out. The zoo is taking donations and coming up with cool fund raising ideas to pay for this new exhibit. It's a $50 million dollar project. My idea is to come up with a cool poster that the zoo can sell and have the proceeds go towards the 'Asian Tropic" project. I'd be donating my time in the poster design. If you allowed me to use your pic I would put photo credit with your name and info on the poster.

I'll let you think on this and hope to here from you soon. Thanks for taking the time to read my email.
