I find the leafcutter bees to be particularly beautiful and intriguing. Unlike most bees, those in the Genus Megachile, carry their pollen on their abdomen instead of pollen sacs on their legs. This Genus also constructs beautiful little cigar-shaped nest cells, comprised of perfect circles of leaves which they cut out of roses (mostly) and other plants.

The Family Megachilidae also contains bees more familiarly known as Mason Bees (Osmia). These bees usually nest in the ground, sometimes taking over the burrows of other ground-nesting insects.
