This pretty shrub, whose leaves really are shiny, is native to southern area and south. It doesn't naturally occur around Ottawa, but several hours south, we found a number of shrubs on a rocky ridge. It doesn't do well in shade and prefers sandy, rocky outcrops. In the same genus as the more familiar Staghorn Sumac.
