Bog buckbean moth (Hemileuca)

Marlborough Forest area

This species, a member of the Giant Silk Moths family (Saturniidae), exists in only a few locations in the Ottawa Valley. Their habitat requirements are fens with bog buckbean, as well as willow and sweet gale. They are considered an endangered species in Ontario.
