Northeastern pine sawyer beetle (Monochamus notatus)

Larose Forest

This beautiful big long-horned beetle (Cermabycidae) landed on my back the other night, making it difficult to photograph! Stephen encouraged it onto his hand and I got a couple of shots to show the size of this, the largest beetle in the northeast according to Bug Guide. It was very vocal and when Stephen was trying to get it onto his hand it was making a high-pitched chittering noise! Very cool.

Amazing details in this shot. One of these landed on my hand at a stop during my bike ride on the Icefields Parkway. I let it sit on my finger. The others in the group jumped away!
