The adult of this species is quite spectacular, the larva perhaps less so. However, it is interesting for its habit of piling its frass (insect poop) on its back in an effort to deter predators. This and several others, as well as eggs of the species, were all found on Solanum dulcamara, a wild plant (from Europe) in the potato family.
