Five years ago, January 1st saw Ottawa without any snow to speak of. I was walking in the woods when this beautiful little creature ran past. Because he was white against the brown leaf litter, it was easy to follow him as he hunted for red squirrels, going. These creatures, also known as Ermine, are brown most of the year but turn white in winter to blend in with the snow, but at this point there wasn't any snow, though it came a few days later, and then this weasel would be almost invisible.

He was very purposeful and seemed to ignore me at first. After about 5 minutes of this, he ran up a tree where he stayed for a minute or so, allowing me photos from a distance. Then he ran off and vanished. This was a feel good photo, a beautiful creature that I rarely get a chance to see in action or to photograph.
