Pine Imperial moth (Eacles imperialis), #7704

Larose Forest

This is the subspecies of the Imperial moth,and occurs here in Ontario and northwards; the larvae live only on pines. They are in the Royal Silkmoth subfamily (Ceratocampinae)and are about 5 inches in size, big enough to span a hand. Like all the big silkmoths (and many others) they don't eat as adults (moths).

That is very pretty, like a flower petal...a fine shot too. V

Though I've never seen one we have a female Hercules Moth with a wingspan of 10 inches...which is the largest in the world, it's very pretty in shape too. Google will have images.
