Compton tortoiseshell butterfly (Nymphalis l-album)

Reveler Conservation Area

Found on a warmish sunny day at the conservation area about 10 days ago. This individual is quite tattered, having spent the winter hibernating either under tree bark, in a crevice, or some other warm spot, and it has been a looong winter to be stuck inside!
