Skunk cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus)

Osgoode area

This plant is very rare in the Ottawa district, with only a couple of locations known. It is much more common south of here. These ones have just started to grow. The flower is not very showy and is encased inside these spathes. The huge leaves appear in summer.
