Assassin bug (Zelus luridus), nymph

Reveler Conservation Area

Don't let the name fool you... these bugs are harmless to humans, but they do attack other insects, including many that gardeners don't want in their gardens. Thus, those who know about insects, know that these are the good guys in the garden and they welcome them. This is the nymph stage, they are quite a bit larger when full adults (SEE: http://www.pbase.com/laroseforest/image/146979889). This one, and a second one, were found under leaf litter in the woods. They were moving very slowly because it was still so cold, and in the leaf litter still a lot of ice. The bright green colour stood out against the brown, dead leaves.
