Bird's nest fungi (Cyathus)

Ferguson Forest

There was a lovely population of these tiny but fascinating fungi. They are in the same family as puffballs, so they release their spores in the same way, in a cloud of 'dust'. Inside you can see some of the "eggs", or spore sacs, which release their spores when hit by raindrops.
