Smooth rock tripe lichen (Umbilicaria)

Shaw Woods

Lots of this lichen on the rock face by the Snake River. It is said that this is edible, but needs to be boiled to make it chewable. Others say that even after hours of boiling it still is indigestible. I guess if one was really hungry....
