Bumble flower beetle (Euphoria inda)

Reveler Conservation Area

This insect emerges in early spring on the first warm days. it flies low to the ground, buzzing loudly and in shape and to some extent colour, resembles a fat bumble bee. It is a Scarab Beetle, does not sting, despite being a probable bumble bee mimic. It is quite endearing to watch because these beetles really seem to 'bumble along' (although their common name comes from their resemblance to bumble bees). They bump into twigs, fall on to their backs, bang into sticks, rocks and stems, bounce off of leaves...

sounds klutzy, looks woolly, may well be a sympathetic fellow traveler...
