A familiar sight on milkweeds in late summer and autumn. Like Monarch Butterfly caterpillars, these ones also cope with the toxins in milkweed and presumably their colouring which is the same orange and black as the adult Monarch Butterfly, tells predators to stay away. Almost all the other creatures who feed on milkweed leaves are highly coloured red and black.
