Slender smoothtail fly larva (Epistrophella emarginata)

Gatineau Park

There were thousands of non-native Rudbeckia along a trail in the park, a garden plant that has now become established in this particular area. These plants are susceptible to the Uroleucon aphids which were abundant. In amongst them were these guys, hungry hover fly(Syrphid) larvae, known for their huge appetite for aphids.
