Bowl-and-doily weaver (Frontinella communis), female

Reveler Conservation Area

A side view of this attractive spider. Front view is in the next image. The name, bowl and doily weaver, comes from the shape of the nests which suggest a bowl suspended over a doily. However, one author suggests that 'cup and saucer weaver' would work equally well for a name. The spider hangs upside down waiting for prey to land and then pulls them down through the bowl.

Well spotted and captured, although not sure I'd ever say "attractive" and "spider" in the same sentence ;-). V.

Almost ghostly with white ribbing on black; an attractive spider indeed.
