Trillium, nodding (Trillium cernuum)

Larose Forest

These trilliums are less well-known than the dominant white trillium in our region, and are more difficult to find. The flowers hang down below the leaves, much as mayapple flowers do and therefore are not immediately obvious. But they are unusual and pretty enough to make looking for them worthwhile. They grow under the dense shade of the forest canopy.
