We spent some enjoyable time watching a pair of river otter in an extensive wetland which was largely still frozen. However, they had made holes in the ice here and there and sometimes stuck their heads up to peer at us. They were close enough to be seen well through binoculars, but definitely not close enough for a sharp photo. This has been heavily cropped. Here, one of the otter is on top of a muskrat lodge and marking its territory.
