Giant Swallowtail butterfly larva (Papilio cresphontes)

This is one big caterpillar! We found 6 today at the Reveler Conservation Area, all on prickly ash, their only known food source up here. In more southerly areas, they feed on orange trees, giving rise to the name Orange Dog. To see the spectacular butterfly they become: http://www.pbase.com/laroseforest/image/157084467
