Double cocoon

Reveler Conservation Area. This tiny double cocoon was found on the underside of a leaf. Various insect families will make this sort of thing, a cocoon nestled inside a 'net-like' outer cocoon. Brown lacewings (Neuroptera) are one of the species who will do this, but many others do also. I am not sure who made this, but it does look like it might have been a leafhopper.

This reminds me of an Egyptian mummy. Perhaps this is why they wrapped the dead like this and expected them to emerge into a new life just as the moths and butterflies do. Voted.
