This is a beautiful brightly patterned day-flying moth with distinctive orange tufts on its leg. It was nectaring on Goutweed. I have found the caterpillars more often than the adults, which usually don't sit still long enough to be photographed. The caterpillars are also spectacular looking creatures, often found on wild grape.
