American Beech tree young leaves (Fagus grandifolia)

Only a week ago I took some shots of the golden coloured buds and now the leaves are unfurling and a vivid bright green, though here they are in deep shade so the green is subdued. The fringe of hairs really stands out at this point.

I never even knew about the fringe, that's fascinating, and a beautifully detailed capture. V.

Nifty closeup of a leaf most people wouldn't notice.

I can assume the hairs are to protect the young leaves from being eaten.
Terrific close up.

The most beautiful leaf, a deep moss green with the gossamer hairs unfurling.
